I used to think more is always better.
Having more ideas, more context, and more angles in a single post is the best way to do it.
I thought maybe that’ll make it valuable for everyone. Turns out, it did the opposite.
People would scroll past it, or worse, get confused. Because when you're trying to please everyone, you usually end up reaching no one.
It took me a while (and many bad posts) to realise this: Writing isn't about saying one thing that is remembered, trusted, and valued.
Here’s how to do it with the rule of (1):
→ 1 idea.
→ For 1 reader.
→ Told in 1 clear way.
This changed how I write.
I stopped adding 3 insights into one post, stopped worrying about adding depth with big words, stopped trying to sound like an expert.
Instead, I started doing this:
→ Pick the one insight I wish someone had told me 2 years ago.
→ Write like I’m texting it to a friend who really needs it.
→ Keep it simple enough to get in one scroll.
We all know that not every post goes viral, and it doesn't have to, but more people now get it.
They feel what I’m saying, they respond more, and that’s the whole point of writing online, right?
Hope this helps if you’ve been stuck with overthinking your posts.
Try this next time you write:
- Pick one thing you truly believe in.
- Write for one person who’s still figuring it out.
- Explain it in a way that doesn’t need a re-read.
You’ll probably make more impact with fewer words.
